A happy Ida in front of Orange stage with cheap rosé wine
I decided to keep a small diary on this year's trip to Roskilde festival. Just a few sentences, nothing crazy reviewer-like. I'm usually concertmaxxing at this cornucopia of music, leaving me overstimulated and forgetful after the festival. But I want to be able to remember all these wonderful, varied experiences - maybe these notes will help? And maybe they will introduce you to some new music.

You can read my notes from Wednesday through Saturday below this interactive map.

Press a stage to see all notes related to a specific stage, do some filtering of days to see the daily route on it or just view the nine highlights!

Wednesday
17:30
Orange, Pil
Pleasant beginning for the people. As tradition abides, other popular artists are invited up in a celebration of the Danish music family. Was difficult to leave when her EDM bangers started to appear.
18:20
Fauna, Tuvaband
Beautiful, melancholic indie. She is a great singer, and the combination of her fragile stile fits the underlying rock very well.
18:47
Instant vibes. They are fucking good, tearing us all around in the tent. Crazy charisma. Huge sunglasses.
19:36
Damn, there's a very long queue to get in... I'm listening and peeking through the entrance - it unfortunately sounds very creative, and I later learned that my friend thought it was one of the best concerts he had been to :(
19:55
Orange, Wolf Alice
Sounds like some OK interesting rock. They get all hard-rock at times. It suits the low, lingering summer sun quite well.
20:43
Lagune, Angående Mig
HIGHLIGHT
Creative, beautiful, theater-like. Actually.. yes: this seems like 'totalkunst', a theater concert of many genres. Wonderfully refreshing and unique.
21:55
Orange, The Cure
They looked like someone who had gone astray, as they appeared on stage. It's an allright fit for the sunset, but I'm a little bored. Luckily, I'm with good people!
Thursday
13:14
Gloria, Soli City x Vertigo
HIGHLIGHT
Ben Nobuto, but less chaotic and more beautiful. I would love to compose something like this one day. One track with rhythmically broken string riffs and a repeating vocal sample sent me flying, wow! What a beautiful beginning of the day.

14:30
Arena, Guldimund
A wholesome sing-along for the people. I used to think that he was a bit boring, but I think his new collaborations are next level (unfortunately not appearing today..!), as well as the songs tilting towards Nordic folksy vibes.
16:30
Egyptian poetry slam with jazzy trombones. The pretty atmosphere elevates when one of the trombonists starts to 'beat-box' through the instrument, while the other sauces up his with eerie amounts of delay and reverb.
17:07
Fauna, Yerai Cortes
Pretty cool flamenco with a ridiculously tight choir.
18:00
Orange, Little Simz
HIGHLIGHT
What a simultaneously joyful and hardcore attitude Little Simz and her band arrived with. A hard-hitting backing track appears, creating a nicely varied experience between the live performance of the band and heavier electronic elements. ...oookay now she started live DJ'ing while rapping. This is a huge party, but in contrast to other hip-hop artists, it is an optimistic, community-based party. Vibes.
18:51
Gloria, The New Eves
Okay what this is a young band! Fun little witch club.
19:11
Arena, Ethel Cain
Melancholia galore. Perhaps a bit too singer-songwriter-ish for me. People are crying a lot on the big screens, I guess you'd have to be better at listening to lyrics than I am.
20:18
Lagune, Naïka
Listening from a distance on the grass, chilling with the group. ...we went into the tent as it started raining now. It feels a bit like a partyband.
22:00
Orange, Gorillaz
Another party for the people on Orange. Damon brought a huge band. A pitcher of white russians. ...I later learned that his grumpyness about the sound from another stage got the other concert closed, boooo! Bad Damon. You're on Orange, how much more space do you need to claim?
Friday
13:11
Gloria, Vanessa Amara
Damn, came too late and heard just one song. But that song was great - a kaleidoscopic beginning of the Friday!
14:00
Lagune, Chezile
Kinda chill, kinda boring.
14:30
HIGHLIGHT
She is just sitting there - the Welsh guitarist - and mesmerising Gloria with her tirelessly strumming right hand. Magical.
15:30
Very chill with Ida and a beer.
16:30
Gloria, Milkweed
Could have been a cool folk-horror experience, if we didn't have to leave early to see Maruja. He played that ancient guitar like a mad man.
17:00
Fauna, Maruja
HIGHLIGHT
Rage Against The Machine, but with more jazz influence and a larger dynamic range. What a dynamic range!! Got goosebumps several times, most epic experience so far.

18:30
Some spiritual vibes for our dinner. Listening with half an ear, at a distance.
19:00
Orange, Addison Rae
TikTokTime. Couldn't quite figure out whether the Madonna-Whore complex was embraced and satirised or internalised. After learning more about the context around her it does seem like a positive reclaiming of sexuality in pop. I was bored nonetheless.
20:00
Lagune, Genesis Owusu
HIGHLIGHT
What. A. Drummer. And Genesis' charisma is godlike; his music satisfyingly varied. Huge party. Great vibes. Best concert of the festival so far?
21:13
Mind-expanding electronic. Very pretty at times.
22:08
Orange, Jennie
K-pop danceparty. The American record labels are getting some competition.
23:00
Eos, Oklou
Listened to in the background with a bunch of fries. Some guy was extremely enthusiastic that we offered him our Rosé wine. Oklou's 'harvest sky' was a perfect Friday epilogue to these Orange feelings.

Saturday
15:30
Orange, TV2
Another party for the people. Might have been fun if I'd been able to find my friends.
16:30
Gloria, Cuirass
Energetic, virtuous medieval tunes. I feel cast into Runescape! There's a lot of fun interaction between the crowd and our bards.
17:07
Is this disco from the future? I like it a lot.
18:30
Gloria, Bruno Berle
Very beautiful and skilled, but it currently bores me. I'll have a listen another time, at another mood!
18:45
First round of metal. There's a lot going on in this project. However, I was never much into that sort of hoarse-scream growling style.
19:35
Lagune, Igorrr
HIGHLIGHT
Woah this is EPIC. An insane mix of metal, electronic beats, classic orchestra samples and opera-singing. It sounds ludicrous, but I'm intrigued. The synth guy got a glitchy dub-step break for himself. Very creative. I wanna mix genres like that as well.
20:16
HIGHLIGHT
Ecstatic, intense techno. ...this Saturday is coming around, rapidly! Would've loved to be in the middle of the party with friends, it looks like bliss. These beats are heavy, the perfect techno for my current mood. Their charisma is magic.
20:50
Orange, Lily Allen
Found the friends again. Lily's theater assumes that we are all fans or care about the context of her new album. I dunno, man. Igorrr and Frost Children are hard to follow.
22:20
Lagune, Jane Remover
I think my expectations are still too high from Igorrr and Frost Children - or is the sound also kinda bad? There's no bass. They should probably have played at the Eos stage instead...
23:20
Gloria, Ata Kak
I missed a party here! Heard the last song, what an atmosphere.
23:33
Orange, Zara Larsson
Okay, the 'party for the people' award on the main, Orange stage seems to go to Zara Larsson this year. A classic Orange experience, people everywhere, everyone ecstatic (as far as I can tell). Well prepared and on fire.
00:45
Arena, Zar Paulo
HIGHLIGHT
The supreme party band of Denmark. No question. Damn. I'm extremely biased, both as a long-time fan, and as someone who got very close to the stage. But what a night. What a perfect conclusion.
